Gary,

Your brokerage doesn't give you online trades and confirmations? I use Dreyfus and I have the confirmation in secs or faster. And they are discount. They are slower w/ market orders because they try to get you the best price.

That's why, IMHO, you need to use a direct order entry type of firm like MBT, or the others. Immediate executions, as well as immediate updating of account balances, is really necessary.

Also, while I understand your theory of trying to stay with stocks that your broker makes a market in, are you aware that that is exactly the way that they are screwing you? You're probably paying the offer on buys, and getting the bid on sells, I bet. Using an MBT, or one of the others would allow YOU to be the MM, buying at the bid and selling at the offer, most of the time. You also have access to more than one ECN, SOES, SelectNet, after hours trading, and more, depending who you go with.

This just begins to describe the advantages of these type of systems. There are plenty more.

I hope this helps.
