"I gave up thinking I could "know" anything about the true nature of god (if there is a god) quite some time ago."

Without a love of truth and reality coupled with a humble spirit, you cannot know God. Jesus is the only door.

The more religions I study, the more I go through phases of belief and disbelief in some kind of divine
reality. And that's about as close to being "religious" as I come. I gave up thinking I could "know" anything
about the true nature of god (if there is a god) quite some time ago. On the other hand, I seem to have a
more profound appreciation of the existential mystery of it all.

Exactly, that is why you at some point realize that, notwithstanding crazy Emile's contention that only Judaism is fable and myth, they all are. As I said earlier in this thread, man needed something to explain what he could not, and thus came these stories.

I went through a similar search in my early twenties, studying with numerous religions, and finding the same things you did. That is when I realized that the questions cannot be answered in this life, and it is best just to know your spiritual self, keep your heart kind, and 'do unto others...'.

It beats taking anything anyone says, and twisting it to prove your opinion correct, as someone we know does.

wallacestevens,

You said, "The more religions I study, the more I go through phases of belief and disbelief in some kind of divine reality." Did you ever study the bible with an open mind and heart? Do you ever truly ask God, wanting to know the truth?

That's all you'll need to do to find the one true faith and belief. And you can strictly do it a little prayer, and either the Old or New Testament alone.

Studying both though are best....

God Bless,
Steve
