I doubt Diablo alone will inspire much 3dfx sales

Very few titles have that level of direct effect.
the only title of recent memory that comes to
mind is FF7. A friend pointed out to me that
it would have been cheaper to buy FF7 and a
Sony playstation, then to "wait" for the PC
version and then buy a 3dfx card to enjoy it.
I'd say that Unreal helped sell more 3dfx V2
cards, then Diablo2 ever will. Diablo2 fans
will be too busy playing Diablo2 to care about
the lighting effects. That's the greatest
aspect of that game was the gameplay, and
other details, not the gaming technology
used. I'd say the main reason Diablo2 even
bothered with 3dfx is that when the press
compares it's screenshots to other clone
games expected around the same period, it
won't look so pathetic in that 200x320 res.
