Do you think operating systems should be used as weapons against application software developers? Isn't the function of an OS to _facilitate_ the functioning of applications?

JMHO.

What is Java's product, ed? My line on Java has always been, if it's such a fraud, why doesn't Microsoft leave it alone to die of its own manifest deficiencies? Why the subvert and sabotage act? And why does Microsoft have to go crying to the government for backup on the new Microsoftese definition of "honesty", i.e. getting China to pay for Microsoft software? Why is "politically naive software engineer" Bill pushing UCC article 2B?

As for NSCP, how, exactly, were they supposed to succeed as a software business when the "free market" price of their products gets zeroed? Remember Paul "Air Supply" Maritz? Remember poor communist Slivka? You mean "free forever" IE isn't a product of Microsoft's good will? I'm shocked, shocked! It all looks like postmodern economics to me.

The complaints are up to 141 does not mean they all have a merit, not to mention criminal activities of Microsoft.

Getting a bit ungrammatical there, aren't we.

Cheers, Dan.

Ed,

You dont quit do you.

MSFT should not be supporting JAVA in order to help NSCP!!!! In fact, JAVA is a solution brought to the industry by Sun. So why you would put NSCP and JAVA in the same sentence is beyond me.

Obviously you dont have much of a clue about the computer industry do you. JAVA is on the road to becoming the first true platform independent language. It still needs to mature, but MSFT is systematically sabatoging all efforts for JAVA to have any hope on JAVA meeting its goals. It is once again using its monopolistic powers to try to mutate JAVA so that it turns out to be no more an open platform language as any of the others.

So now Mr. Ed, I can hear the rusty wheels a squeeking in your head. Your saying to yourself, "why should MSFT be a good will broker", because it is in the interests of a better industry that we could have one language that can be used on a PC, midrange, mainframe, Personal Computer, Palmtop, etc. Of course, MSFT considers all this a threat to its monopoly. And instead of MSFT considering this to be an opportunity to grow and help the industry that it must live in, it would rather crush it so that MSFT sets the rule of where the poor PC consumer must go.

As for your following comment...

If Java or NSCP's product is so powerful, then why they can not be successful by their own, instead of crying for help from the government ?

You just dont get it do you!! Read the Anti-Trust regulations. Learn the reasons behind why they were put there. Educate yourself a bit before making such utterly DUMB statements. Let me help you one more time Mr. Ed. NSCP is going to the government for help because MSFT is using its unrelated OS monopoly on the desktop to crush NSCP's Browser marketshare leadership. And this is so easy for MSFT to do since NSCP's browser must run on MSFT's OS, MSFT only has to do what it has done, it simply puts its inferior browser as part of the OS and states that its free. NSCP's broswer, as superior as it is compared to IE will still lose marketshare because many consumers will feel its good enough, it may work better with future MSFT rollouts (because MSFT can make sure it has features before it tells anyone else), and they cant be bothered to switch to the NSCP browsers.

Say goodbye to another innovative company that was crushed simply because of pretatory practices by MSFT and its OS monopoly.

By the way Mr. Ed. Dont think NSCP was the first to have been crushed by MSFT's numerous anti-competitive practices. Its just that NSCP is the first to actually have the guts to stand up and fight for its rights and the good of the entire computer industry - INCLUDING YOU THE CONSUMER!!!

MSFT should not be helping its competitors to be successful, but MSFT should also not be using preditory practices with its monopoly to get into whatever business it wants. Remember, NSCP made the browser a household name befor MSFT (as non-innovative as they are) even thought of putting out a browser.
