INSTANT VIEW-BOJ targets o'nite call rate at 0.25%

TOKYO, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Following are economists' reactions to Japan's central bank's announcement that it would target the overnight call rate at 0.25 percent and seek to expand money supply by providing ample liquidity.

PETER MORGAN, ECONOMIST, HSBC SECURITIES:

''It's good news. It's too little, too late as usual, but it's still welcome. It can't have that much effect, but it's got to have some
small positive impact. For any debtor, it ought to reduce interest costs somewhat.''

I do appreciate your returning to the thread. I am learning a great deal from your posts.
Last night I listened to two opposing economists comment on Greenspan's potentially lowering interest rates..one was positive and the other was negative..
The negative view was that it was further going to hurt Japan and continue the deflationary spiral.
My market historian friend said gold will do just great in deflation..
ps. do you know how dependent Canada is on resource sector? I have read that it is no longer that dependent but can't find the article.
Bobby --being forced to look at more charts..
ps. I am curious as to how easy it was for hedge funds to borrow yen at such low rates and now even lower and help create the havoc.
I am beginning to think that maybe Japan also likes negative attention..I think there was a Roman called the delayer..who might have won the war by his delaying tactics..will see if I can remember..

Oh, I can read, allright: U post: your 600% is greater than my 1450% return. I also can count better than you-hahahahahhaha!

RE: my costs?
Well, that is my return after acquisitions, extraction, chemical expense, refining and assaying. Time? Well, smartarse, that is why I am getting the 1450% and you are only getting 600% on a rare day.
Oh, and does your computer use a phone line, i.e., you subract it for business use? Sounds like a modem user t'me. Subtract your entire monthly phone charge for business use also? Out here a POTS line minimum is $25 per month...oppps...and depreciation on that piece of computer hardware? And the software right off? Oh, and commissions?
And the cost of money you have tied up in your little venture. And the two + hours PER NIGHT that you spend doing your lil charts and plottin' and planning?

I never claimed hedge funds went bankrupt, (speaking TO someone who can't read) What I said was that derivative players who happen to be in hedge funds and those who AREN'T lost 50% PLUS in deriv plays unwinding unprofitably, a fact that you claim is impossible if you lay off enough risk in the options market because you are such a darn good options player. I double dog dare you to find one teeeeeensy little instance/post where I claimed CitiCorp, Morgan Stanley, or J.P. Morgan went "bankrupt" in the last few weeks.

What a twit! Not only are you blind in one eye, you can't quote/type out of the other!

So you buy ABX unmargined...big deal...
So do I and I also buy it margined. So what?

Look, Hutchiepooh, I'm not tearing you a new one because you are making money, but because you claim it is fool-proof, error proof and loss proof to use derivatives like you do as the brass ring ticket to the easy life.

And I'll take my couple hours a week and 1450% return on oh, let's be conservative...2 ounces a week conservative enough for you, plus all that free silver I get (10:1 ratio of recovered silver to recovered gold) as well.

Take a deep breath, Hutch. You're sounding like a breathless school girl who got asked on her first date the night before graduation!!!

Ole not only graduated, I'm head o'my class /49r
