I will give you an answer as I am sure Steve will also.

YES "holding" God to anything is not for you or me. God has fully told us what kind of God He is.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Why should you even consider a "bare minimum standard" for God?? Where were you when He laid the foundations of earth? Tell me if you know?

This is a very dangerous route you have chosen my friend.

Mark,

Honestly, I don't know. It seems obvious to us, but we are so limited in our knowledge base.

Mark, someone once painted the picture to me this way:

Did you ever see a needlepoint?

Its one of those mesh screens, it looks like paint by number, in which you sew certain color thread into pre-marked areas of the screen, and you end up, provided you have followed the directions properly, with a beautiful picture in which the needlepoint promises once it is completed. Some of these needlepoints are beautiful and precious. But here is the funny thing, one side of the needlepoint looks great. But turn it over! The other side looks like a complete disaster. Why? Cause who cares about the bottom. The bottom is where you tie knots, try to make corrections and just flat out do not care what it looks like. Just as long as the other side comes out right, you don't care what the under side looks like. And no matter what needlepoint you look at, flip it over. I bet the bottom looks like a wreck! Well, we live on the bottom of the needlepoint. We see things happening all over the place. But we can't begin to understand whats happening on the flip side of the needlepoint. We are not privy in this life to see the other side of that needlepoint until we die. So we live trying to understand the messy side. And we can't. It's just a pure wreck. But rest assure the other side, the side that counts is pure perfection. And maybe when wwe see the perfect side, everything will make sense. But it just won't while we are on the bottom side of that needlepoint!

Hope that helps a bit.....

God Bless,
Steve

Mark,

<<< Do you consider holding God to a standard of love over pain and suffering to be pigeon-holing? >>>

By who's authority do you hold God to a standard? Many years ago when men were copying the scriptures, just one little slip up was enough to shame them for days. Just one little mess up on the name of God and they would have to take a bath and repent. And yet look at you. Why will you continue to make God out to be no greater than what your imagination dictates?

He is a holy God and every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that all His judgements are righteous.

Chris
