Just looked at my records for AMZN to see when the last time the stock moved in a narrow range like it did yesterday. It was August 25, 26 and 27. On those days, the stock traded flat with a downward tilt starting at 135 and ending at 120. Then in the next three days the stock tumbled down on heavy volume to 100, 90, 65. In other words it was a top. Of course, the Dow also managed a huge drop parallel to AMZN. I am beginning to see AMZN as a high beta surrogate for the Dow Industrials.

I think that flat trading could be a controlled distribution pattern for both.

Any thoughts?
