I certainly hope that AOL does not acquire eBay, at least before an IPO.

eBay is in a very strong position to own a big piece of eCommerce, where the future is huge.

As an investor, I would rather have that direct leverage through eBay than through AOL, where the benefit would be diluted.

I have bought and sold on ebay many times and I feel they have a great business. My only questions is "why are they going public?" Does anybody know why a company earning nearly a million dollars with hardly any expenses would try to "expand" by increasing expenses dramatically? The founders could just sit there and get rich themselves. They don't have to open new locations, buy land, or increase inventory. Where will they spend their securities proceeds? Maybe I am being way too cynical. If it was me I would just sit back and rake it in by myself without the public for a few more years anyway.

Any comments are appreciated

Mike
