Tlab says it did not know about contract loss.
Linthicum, Maryland, Sept. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Tellabs Inc. and Ciena Corp. denied a Bloomberg News report that the companies knew Ciena wouldn't win a contract from Digital Teleport Inc. when Tellabs renegotiated an agreement to buy Ciena last month.

The companies had no prior knowledge of the $240 million contract that Digital Teleport announced today with Italy's Pirelli SpA, said Tom Scottino, a Tellabs spokesman.

People familiar with a revised merger agreement reached by the companies last month said the reduced exchange ratio reflected assumptions that it wouldn't get the order, which analysts had predicted would have been worth $100 million in revenue for Ciena
