Jim: As you noted in your account of the shareholder's meeting, Boucher wanted the company to return to its roots. Looks like he is taking swift and decisive action: slough off the satellite business, which has not yet matured but I've read that prospects are good down the line; push off the RAID initiative with Ridge; and farm out the Fibre Channel by developing strategic alliances. And reduce labor and other costs for the core business. Interesting transition from the "new Adaptec" announced by Saviers in April, when it was expanding in all directions. This is the shrinking universe, and I'm hoping there isn't a black hole somewhere out there.

What's with Chaparral? Was there already a strategic relationship or is it's web master on top of things? I notice on the Chaparral company information page is the following: "Chaparral Technologies has a dual strategic relationship with Adaptec Corporation as both an equity investor and technology provider. Chaparral is able to leverage the Adaptec Fibre Channel/SCSI scalable family of RAID controllers with its own proved engineering expertise in secondary and tertiary storage." According to Boucher's announcement, "Alliances WILL be formed with . . . Chaparral Technologies" and the company has signed "an LOI to form a strategic alliance . . . ."
