No, it would not. For the second quarter AMD estimated production (in units) of 2M to 2.5M. Most analysts pegged the number closer to 2 than 2.5, but AMD actually sold 2.7M.

This quarter, AMD originally estimated 3 to 3.5M units, but recently changed its estimate to "at least 3.5M." I think your second hypothesis about what's going on is the accurate one: 2) AMD is learning to be more conservative with pre-announcements.
