Egypt Telecom Partners with Digitcom Corporation to Handle IP Long Distance Phone Traffic
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Digitcom Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: DGIV - news) and Telecom Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding to join in installation and marketing of Internet Protocol long distance telephone service commencing between Egypt and the United States, to expand to other markets in the future. The planned venture will join Telecom Egypt and Digital Long Distance Corporation, a subsidiary of Digitcom, in a revenue sharing arrangement or the formation of a joint stock company.

''Telecom Egypt was attracted by IP telephony's ability to increase the capacity of existing infrastructure at a very low cost,'' explained Jimmy Chin, Digitcom CEO. ''Our IntraVoice technology can leverage the significant investment they have made recently in a major modernization of their switched network. And, Telecom Egypt gains a marketing partner in the U.S. which can help increase the revenue traffic that now flows between our countries.''

There is currently approximately 110 Million minutes of long distance in the bilateral market, retailing for between $.90 to $1.40 in the United States, and US$2.20 to Egyptian customers. Digitcom's affiliated network will market telephone and fax traffic to DLD Egypt's gateway service.

''Telecom Egypt, as the National telephone company, is an important strategic partner, opening the Middle East for Digitcom,'' Chin said. ''Egypt's is the largest market in the region. And, we're excited about their commitment to advanced telecommunications technologies as they prepare for privatization and the competition that comes with deregulation.''

The MOU provides for the purchase and installation of Digitcom's IntraVoice CO equipment required by the venture.

Digitcom is a leader in Internet voice communications technology. The company is deploying its Internet Protocol telephony products using its proprietary ''IntraVoice'' gateway technology in partnership with regional and national telephone companies internationally to establish long distance networks.
