OT : History lesson: -
It is near the end of the school year. The teacher has turned in her
grades. There is really nothing to do. All the kids are restless because there is nothing to do and it is near the end of the day. The teacher says, "Whoever is the first to correctly answer the questions I ask, can leave early today."
Johnny says to himself, "Good, I want to get outta here. I'm smart and will answer the question".
The teacher asked, "Who said 'Four Score and Seven Years Ago'? Before Johnny could open his mouth, Susie said, "Abraham Lincoln". The
teacher said, "That's right Susie. You can go". Johnny was MAD that Susie answered first.
The teacher asked, "Who said, 'I Have a Dream'?" Before Johnny
could open his mouth, Mary said, "Martin Luther King". The teacher said, "That's right Mary. You can go". Johnny was even MADDER than before that Mary answered first.
Then the teacher asked, "Who said 'Ask not, what your country
can do for you'?" Before Johnny could open his mouth, Nancy said, "John Kennedy". The teacher said, "That's right Nancy. You can go". Johnny was BOILING MAD that Nancy answered first.
Then the teacher turned her back, and Johnny said, "I wish these bitches would keep their mouths shut". The teacher asked, "WHO SAID THAT?" Johnny said, "BILL CLINTON, CAN I GO NOW?"

It is a sad commentary that Cliton's impeachable acts center on a sexual laison, and then his attempts to cover it up. This is a far cry from crimes of high treason. or breaking into the watergate office of your political opponent. I do not mean to condone cliton's actions, they were deplorable and represent a major exercise of poor judgement. But it is a private affair. The Starr Inquisition started out investigating Whitewater, and wound up in the oval office with the president's pants down. Come on !!. Hopefully someone in power will stand up and say ENUF !! this is ridiculous. Or, as Paul's friend said: Let he who is without, sin cast the first stone. larry

market may have a down opening ... but will recover quickly ... am expecting the US market to take the lead in turning the trading tables today after initial early selloff. Market to turn back up quickly. Late day trading ... yesterday ... buyers came in.

I am taking the contrarion approach to the STARR*** report ... once released ... it will take a load of aprehension off our heads...traders can then acknowledge and move on

Not looking to enter anything before 9:45 also ... then am looking at adding to my KM (in at 12 9/16) longer term
HAIN at 14 to 15
EDS early after initial dip
SIVB is gapping up ... possibly an early short at open, before making additional advances
BKB mid morning ... more bad pr on CNBC ... should cause an early dive

ZITL ... junk but has potential for large % gains daily .. an intraday play only

well ... now I can plan on being right on at least one item here <zvbg>

have a great day all,
Sue

PIR, CCL, VLSI, PAUH

Ron,

PIR's earnings were equal to the First Call estimate of 17 cents. Same store sales were at the low end of the expected range, but still in line with estimates. The stock has declined from ~16 1/2 to ~8 1/2 over the past 6 weeks primarily on what I think are recession fears. If these fears recede, then I think the stock will sustain a rally. For now, I'd look for a trading range between 8 1/2 and 11. I sold my position two days ago at 10 5/16 and am looking to buy it again...current price of 9 1/8 x 9 1/4 seems like a good entry for a short term trade.

CCL: The market has a way of discounting future news. I'm not sure if it's because the news leaks but that's why I think it's important to read the tape. Too bad I don't always follow my instincts! Sometimes you get faked out, i.e., a stock is strong before news and then the news is bad. But more often than not, the market is right before the news comes out. ORCL also jumped a bit in the last 10 to 20 minutes of trading yesterday before releasing their earnings.

I'm long a bunch of VLSI again at an average cost of 7 13/16 and I agree that a move through 8 would be very positive. If it gets through 8, I think it will fill the gap up to 8 5/8, and after that, resistance is near 10. The chart looks ok as long as it doesn't break below 7 and I think the valuation is ridiculously low. This is a broken stock and has historically needed about two weeks of basing before sustaining a move.

I'm also long a small amount of PAUH at 7 7/8. The stock got clobbered in the crash last week and has recovered some. My target is 8 1/2 to 8 3/4.

Thanks for the list. Have a great weekend and enjoy the fishing!

Dan
