I don't follow the DOW but I have 1040 as the top next week before the downturn starts again. Wish I would have listened to myself last night. I was seeing long and everyone else was saying wrong. When am I going to learn to follow my charts. <g> I still see a rally in the charts although not a real fast burner. Still like my scenario of a run up to lull the sheeple to sleep before the big one.

Congrats on your trades.

Dennis: re: Murphy/DIA shorting and SPX put buyin levels
I agree re: John Murphy, he's not inclined to make short term calls, and I've found his analysis on individual stocks he sees getting stronger can change quickly, even before recent extreme market volatility, but he has had the big trend down correct.
I am interested in shorting the DIA,and can do this in my brokerage account, but I don't have experience in shorting, just buying puts and calls on indices in individual stocks. What are the risks of shorting, say, DIA; that is, what losses am I exposed to with a short position?
RE: SPX levels to buy puts; yes, the overhead resistance at about 1030 or roughly DOW 8100(like Don Sew says) looks like the opportune level to get in. How far out will you go with SPX or OEX puts, if you buy in at this level, Oct/Nov/Dec, etc.?
I've been getting whipsawed on near term e.g Sept index puts lately and I'm more inclined to pay up for the further out months, to insure I can catch the anticipated down move, since I'm convinced there will continue to be attempts to support the helium market from many quarters; e.g. Rubin/Greenspan/Intel/positive spin on Clinton debacle, etc.
Watch what the bullish brokerages say and do the opposite, IMHO
Good trading,
