Warburg Dillon Read said that it raised its rating on INTEL CORP
to buy from hold, while market sources said Merrill Lynch had kept
its intermediate and long-term ratings on Intel at neutral.

long-term growth track, but believes stronger-than-expected 3Q

Hello Paul,

There has been some speculation that Intel may acquire a networking company (ie. 3Com). While I think that 3Com would not be a logical choice, I was wondering if you thought it would be a bright move for Intel to acquire a larger networking company? A big fellow like 3com would surely knock down their gross margins (ie. no need for them). Do you think its ridiculous that people even question if they might?

My own fantasy kind of would like to see them acquire a SMALLER fellow like MRVC who has an existing relationship with Intel and they could probably get on the cheap now that they have been slaughtered. With a low priced, cheap End-to-End supplier (enterprise to edge --ethernet and atm) of networking equipment (and just big enough to make a dent), Intel could start to do to the large networker equipment guys (csco, bay/nt, fore) what they did to 3Com in adapter cards (ie. lower prices significantly, making networks much cheaper, thereby selling more CPUs)...am I nuts?

all imho

Paul:

You'd love reading about your favorite stock analyst Tom Kurlak.

In September 21 edition of Business Weak page 31. "Tech to the rescue"

"On average, analysts expect Intel's earnings to fall 17% in the third quarter, and Thomas P. Kurlak, an analyst with Merrill Lynch & Co., says the company could wind up reporting a 22% drop in net income for the third quarter, to $1.2 billion, on a 3% decline in sales, to $5.9 billion."

Too bad Kurlak, your timing could not have been worse. Your credibility is about as good as Clinton's.

Best regards,
