Robin - This is certainly not new technology in the world of proprietary systems. VAX VMS, IBM MVS, all of the Tandem systems, and a host of other mission-critical systems have had this for many, many years. The trick has been to get it into the mainstream volume business in a standardized way. I'm sure you will feel the same way about a number of 'innovations' coming to the mainstream PC world in the next few years. It's all tried and true stuff with years of successful history. But that's exactly the point. IT professionals who have come to expect that level of capability will not move to NT based systems unless they can get the same features. CPQ is moving to incorporate those technologies across the whole product range.
