Dynamicsoft Puts Voice and Fax Over IP With Java September 17, 1998 WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A., Newsbytes via NewsEdge Corporation : jVoIP, or Java Voice over IP, is the management softwareof a Rumson, New Jersey-based company, that is partnering with Solect Technology Group, of Toronto, Canada, to deliver voice and fax capabilities to IP networks. Dynamicsoft's jVoIP Framework was announced today at the Fall '98 VON (Voice on the Net Conference). Dennis Specht, Dynamicsoft CEO, says, "You can't stop VoIP. We're beyond the Tinker Toy stage. At Dynamicsoft, we see Java as the best vehicle toward making it real." The main jVoIP modules include jGateway, jDirectory, jCallAcounting, jManagement, and jSIP -- or Session Initiated Protocol. This basic set of "plug'n play" modules can be extended by end-users for custom voice/fax applications. The jVoIP Framework is available now in a limited release. GTE Corporation's [NYSE:GTE] commercial hardware division is one of the first customers. While jVoIP is designed to be updated as the latest standards emerge, the current release provides compatibility with most accepted H.323 communications, and offers SS7 signaling for current legacy PBXs. The jSIP module is geared for the newer Session Initiated Protocol, while jDirectory supports the T.38 LDAP directory standard. jVoIP will be delivered to end-users by Solect's Internet Administration Framework (IAF). Mark Farmer, Solect product manager for services, told Newsbytes, "IAF is a customer care and billing package, distributed as a shrink- wrapped CD-ROM, which captures subscribers, launches and deploys the application, and provides auto-registration." Farmer adds, "Voice over IP is significantly less expensive, and much more efficient than the switched phone network." To this end, the jVoIP and IAF delivery combination can be scaled for large, national organizations or service providers. PaeTec has signed a $100 million, five-year contract for a minimum of 16 Lucent 5ESS(R) AnyMedia(TM) switches. Unlike most CLECs, PaeTec plans to focus on markets with high volumes of international traffic. Utilizing the latest technological advances from Lucent, PaeTec's national network footprint will be able to serve 50 percent of the US population that generates over 70 percent of all international traffic.
