This proved to the people that he was making himself out to be the same one that talked to Moses out of the burning bush. Consider the following verses out of Exodus.

Chris,

I suppose you missed my message when I examined John 8:58.
In it, Jesus (Pbuh) says "Before Abraham was, I am."

Christians like to believe that he was quoting God from Exodus 3:14 when Moses (Pbuh) asked God "Who are you," and God replied, "I am."

The problem with this assumption is it does not hold true in the original language that the New Testament was written in. During the time of Jesus (Pbuh), the Greek speaking Jews used a Greek translation of their Old Testaement. And in their translation, at Exodus 3:14, God says "Ho won." At John 8:58 Jesus (Pbuh) says,
"Ego Eimi."

They have nothing to do with each other. But when translated to English, the translators translated what God and Jesus (Pbuh) said as the same thing (Being: I am) when however in the original languages, Jesus (Pbuh) did not quote God.

There's also the point Moses (Pbuh) uses the same title in Exodus 3:4. So does this now mean he is God as well?

Peace be unto You,
Norris
