Hmmm . . . I am not sure I understand what you mean when you say that someone has "resurrected" Maitreya. Someone at SI? Or that Maitreya was dead, and is now alive? I was not aware that he died.

I did bring Maitreya up in a discussion with Del, because I believe that most people NEED to have religious beliefs, and in my opinion, from what I know of him, he seems fairly harmless and pacifistic. Am I incorrect there? I really don't believe in resurrections, so I hope you don't think I am guilty of creating one or anything.

I read a book by Gurdjieff ages ago, (Meetings With Remarkable Men,) and the only thing I recall is a passage to the effect (this may not be quite right, but it's close enough) in which he explained that if you are hungry in the desert and food is in short supply, you can add sand to your food, working up from small quantities to larger ones until you're eating all sand, and live on that! Convenient!

I thought he was being a comedian, but have been assured that he writes such things quite seriously. I dare say one has to have the proper mental attitude for this plan to work, and if it doesn't, the fault is one's own.

If I have time later, I may look through the James Webb book for an anecdote or two about Gurdjieff.
