Hi Roger:

Thank you for pointing out this very interesting development.

A few observations:

1. Clearly, OnSale Exchange was not working for OnSale. I think this shows just how formidable eBay has become.

2. If anyone has a chance at making a serious run at eBay, Yahoo would certainly be a possibility.

3. I think we'll know with 100 days whether Yahoo is going to be successful here.

4. I wonder whether Yahoo will ever charge for the auctions. That is where the real money is, at least in my opinion.

5. It will be interesting to see how much Yahoo improves Onsale Exchange, as I have always found Onsale Exchange to be a far inferior experience to that of eBay.

6. Maybe we'll be able to pick up the eBay shares cheaper, as a result.

Almost like a MSFT/NSCP squash move.
Actually this will be great for buyers at eBay if YHOO can steal attention and divert eyeballs away from some of eBay's auctions.
Otherwise, eBay obviously has beat ONSL in the third party category and ONSL is grasping at straws to fight them off. I wonder now if it is clearer than ever that holding a short bias toward ONSL is the right move.

YHOO's classifieds have always been weak IMO. If there is a flavor to the new YHOO auction of big liquidators being the major sellers, then eBay will still reign supreme.
