Well folks, I went back to the local store where people were paying scant attention to the iMac.

I inquired about and it seems that, while the first small iMac shipment was snapped up, the second one is still sitting on the shelves....

I don't know what to make of this.

Hey Soup, and anyone else who can help out with this....

I'm trying to determine whether Cork is still the only plant that is building G3 PowerBooks. I've gotten a couple reports saying that may not be the case anymore. So if you have access to the new speed bumped "PDQ" PowerBooks 233/266/300 MHz machines can you please let me know what the first two letter of the serial number are? These two letters should indicate which plant the unit was produced.

While we're at it, why don't we do a survey for the iMacs as well. As far as I know most of the iMacs in the US, Latin America and Canada are suppose to come from Sac plant (some early units may have been from Singapore), but we might as well do a quick survey to be sure. For all the lurkers out there, please email the info to me at ericy@macevolution.com.

Thanks.

Eric

>>>I am awaiting w/interest the portable iMac. I anticipate it will take on 2400c/eMate proportions but I would love if it took on more of a Newton 2000 form factor.<<<

I agree completely. In fact I'm practically drooling for this one. In fact I hope there's a size kit for this one where the processor, micro-hard disk, and Iomega Clik! are all in a little package, say 3"x4"x0.3", a 3"x4" battery (made in various thicknessess (0.1" to 0.6")), and various screen sizes that I can buy to fit my needs - each capable of pen input. Screen sizes would vary from about 4"x5" to 11"x17", color, 100 pixels/inch resolution.

Jeff

PS: The Clinton fiasco is a spectacle of OJ Simpson proportions! It's hard to watch.

Off-topic: IMO, the nation is supporting (a censured) Clinton staying in office, but that wont stop Republicans from milking this for all its worth -- strengthening their hold on House/Senate and using the confusion to savage every social program they can.

Cool! That may actually give this country a shot at a Republican Congress and a Republican President for the first time since the 1950's. While I'm a bit anxious about what might happen to the environment in the future if this were to happen, I would enjoy every other aspect of it.

A censured Clinton is probably the best chance for this, 'cause if Al Gore becomes the Pres., he may become entrenched and tougher to beat in 2000.

I really like your posts on SI soup, so I hope you won't hold this difference of opinion against me. :)
