I don't know how anyone can be upbeat about this company and the stock in the last 12 months, the performance has been nothing short of abysmal. Besides the obvious fundamental problem, I think Matthews' scorched earth remark concerning a takeover left a very bad taste in the mouth of many people. Pat has mentioned bringing this up at the upcoming annual meeting and I sure hope someone does just that. We need a retraction of that statement and a clarification of the company's official position on takeovers. Look what has happened to companies that rebuff potential suitors. You need only look at Loewen Group and Schneider Corporation for two dreadful examples of what could happen to a company and the faith investors have in them if they take that route.
