John,

< INTC first pre-announces good sales & margins (why would a company
do that???whay not just announce the earnings when they are due?? >

Because Intel has a history of pre-announcing (good or bad) earnings if they are materially different from previous guidance. Nothing sinister like you suggest....just business as usual.

John - Re: "I'll make more money on my long stocks if INTC
leads the pack higher but will have hedged the risk."

You must not have very many shares if you can buy enough puts to hedge the risk.

Or else you own a boat load of Intel puts.

Which is it?

And why do you sound so concerned?

You're gonna make it rich no matter which way Intel goes.

Unless it only goes up to around $86.

Paul

John, a little history about Intel. They are one of the best companies out there when it comes to giving guidance. They are very good at letting the investment community and their shareholders know about changes in their expectations for the future. Not only is it their legal responsibility, but they appear to be A LOT more forthright about letting the public know about their business conditions when they change - more forthright than almost all other public companies.

As for the price cuts, they are not just whimsical things Intel dreams up one or two days in advance. They are scheduled well in advance and the cuts on Monday were known quite a while ago. For your information, I believe they are to cut prices again in October (or maybe November). I'm too tired to look it up right now, but I know they have one more scheduled price cut this year. I'll look it up if you want me to.

As for Paul, if you knew more about Intel's history you wouldn't have to ask him if he held a lot of stock. Do a little more research into your investments, maybe you'd feel you don't have to hedge that much if you did.

Regards,

Doug

I heard they had to pre-announce, because they (Intel) were aggressively buying back their own stock....M
