This incident uncovers for middle America the game played inside the Beltway. The sport of destroying the career of any individual that is an easy target. The grand prize is obviously the President, and it looks like someone won a big bet this time.
I am wondering what this will bring for future presidents, will the opposing political party automatically push for a special prosecutor to investigate each sitting president for some questionable act they may have committed, then allow this independent investigator to shift his focus on any and all potential missteps that are made for the whole of the president's term? This is what happened here, and it smacks of partisan politics to the extreme. Appearing before a grand jury is akin to stepping in front of a moving train. Their only function is to get the person they are after. So this was done quite effectively in this case, and I am disgusted with the process and the tactics involved. Mr. Clinton should have never answered questions about this matter, as it was a personal one to begin with. But the game was played well against him, and he was trapped in a lie. He has nothing to gain by remaining in office, from what I can see, as his detractors will not let this drop until his term is over. It is foolish for the Republicans to push for removal, and have to contend with Gore for two years, giving him a platform for re-election. I suspect that the people behind this are sorry now that it has gone this far. Those who live inside the beltway have little in common with the voting public, in morals or in any other area. This is a sad commentary on our political process.

JL - you could be right - but how do you account for your sampling being different from the polls which are accurate to + - % or whatever? E
