Mason,

Is this a big trap or have we reached a bottom? News is wretched right now. I have been watching for signs that business conditions have stabilized and I just don't see anything significant yet. A major nail in the coffin is MEMC and DPMI's announcements. If there is no demand for chips how can chip companies justify significant capital expenditures?

In the face of all that the basket of stocks I watch have shown some strength. Many are off their lows and have shown some resilience. In other words: there has been enough purchasing to push these stocks up even after bad news (like this morning). I am still skeptical that this will be the case through earnings (which will not be pretty) and wonder if this is a real trap. Business conditions may still stink three/six months from now which may finally lead to real capitulation. However this does look like a bottom.

Trap or bottom?

Dave
