Marc do you now anymore about this split-run thing?

As I understand it, an "adjustment" to Free Trade agreements was added recently that disallowed split-run magazines as they competed unfairly with local publishers for ad revenues. It stemmed from titles like Sports Illustrated and others basically republishing all-U.S. content and slotting in Canadian sourced ads.

If they create these magazines with an additional and appropriate percentage of (?) CDN-content, I believe they are allowed to run Canadian ads. Obviously, it's a less than ideal solution as it gives Canadian publishers an artificial sense of market realities - but the government feels these protectionist measures are required if we want to retain any kind of national voice in the publishing industry.
