Microsoft requires 3rd party certification in order for vendors to put the various logos (Win98 compatible, "designed for win98", etc.) on their boxes. I'm not a big MSFT fan, but in this certification process, I think they have really done something to help the consumer

"Compatible" means it will work under the OS
"Designed for" means it will use the features of the OS.

In your future purchases, look for "designed for" if you are looking for the software/hardware to support new features of that OS.
