Sun Tzu's #4 definitly applies here, but the management will try to remedy this by another one of Sun Tzu's tactics which I did not mention: At all times, make use of Guile. The management will be camouflage the effect of selling puts by lumping it with a bunch of other items and burying them deep in the financial statements. You almost have to be a finance detective to notice these things. The only reason I know of how prevalent they are, is that I work on Wall St. and have friends whose jobs are to conjure up these financial candies and sell them to the corporations. Sun Tzu
