Thanks for pointing out that it's not the PowerPC chip that is being shelved
at that plant. Memory is definitely a big question mark going forward. As you
mention, it would be great for Virginia if Motorola could switch to production
of another product.

The AP release said :>>An expanded project at the West Creek site was revived
in December and groundbreaking on the plant was to have been held next year.
The plant was to have made high-performance chips for pagers and handheld
computers and employ as many as 5,000 people.<<

Do you feel that the handheld computer market is so bad going forward as
to warrant shelving this plant? I thought that the handheld market was just
about to take off with products like Pagenet's Two-Way. This device is
shown on the 3rd page of the Sept. 21 1998 Business Week issue. Two-Way can
send and receive e-mail from a small wallet size device.

Is StrongARM breathing on this decision?!?
