Given the growing partnership between Ascend and Alcatel--which remains one of the largest distributors of Ascend's products--a deal with Lucent may not be in the cards

With LU and CSCO both under such pressure to maintain earnings consistency in order to keep those lofty multiples, any large acquisition by either, better be of a financially healthy company.

This fact alone kind of precludes LU from even considering any other company than ASND at this time.

Any thoughts?
