***OT rant*** Dougjn, mine were not predictions - they were examples of more gloomy predictions we could make. Gloomy predictions based on tenuous connections seem popular. You got the wrong end of the stick. It is imports from the USA for which New Zealand is to be excommunicated over parallel importing. Not Libya, Iran etc. They don't produce much we want! Except for oil. That's the other thing you got wrong. Free air, free oil and free oceans, free spectrum, etc are GOOD! If they can't be free, then the cheaper the better. You won't improve production, profits etc by taxing Americans to use air, oceans, oil and spectrum and giving the money to some uncivilized place so they can buy USA products. That is nuts! [to be rudely blunt]. Of course, if you do believe it, please send me about $1bn in $100 bills. I'll be happy to help. I agree with you that Hussein and co would look a mess in a few short days if they attacked neighbouring oil fields! By the way, when is Libya going to hand over the Lockerbie bombers for trial? And when will Madeleine encourage them? It's dragging on. Maybe when they release the Clinton tapes. Parallel importing is free trade. My point is the USA is establishing, along with Mahathir and others, free trade restrictions. This is a very, very bad reaction to financial failures. Guaranteed to exacerbate problems. The problem is that politicans will realize there is something happening and feel obliged to do something to rescue us all. Since all they can do is stop people doing things - they can't make them do things, they will make things worse with their 'help'. Monetary authorities excepted. They can sure jump things around. Okay, that's it. I give in. Mqurice
