CANAL + Announces Cable Partnership With Callahan Associates International, Capital Communications CDPQ, BancAmerica Equity Partners, GE Capital And Angelo Gordon

CHICAGO, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- CANAL +, the French based media group, announced today that Exante, a company representing a group of investors brought together by Callahan Associates International (CAI), the global communications development company, will purchase a 37 per cent stake in Numericable, CANAL +'s cable operation in France. The companies funding Exante are Capital Communications CDPQ, BancAmerica Equity Partners - Europe, GE Capital Structured Finance Group and CAG (France), a joint venture between CAI and Angelo Gordon. Capital Communications CDPQ is a major Canadian private investment subsidiary of pension fund Caisse de depot et de placement du Quebec

Numericable's operations encompass two million franchise homes in towns and cities around France. The investors' share in Numericable will be held through Exante. Numericable, which recently re-launched its services with a new name, a new brand image, and a new range of digital pay television services, is aiming to develop and grow the company and expand its customer base.

Numericable currently has 600,000 customers, in 33 towns and cities around France, including the Paris suburbs, Lyon, Toulouse, Nice and Grenoble, which it provides with a wide range of cable television services. The group plans to extend its services to include a range of telecommunications products. Commenting on the deal, Pierre Lescure, President of CANAL + ''The team at Callahan Associates has solid, worldwide experience in the development of cable operations. Their specialist knowledge of this sector will be invaluable in helping us execute the most effective strategies for the success of Numericable.''
