Sorry. Simple answer to that question. Anyone can build a short-haul DWDM if they spend enough money to do it. I am not saying that Osicom can't build a suitable product for sale.

I am saying that they can't build it on a large scale for a reasonable price.

An analogy would be AMD vs. INTC. AMD can make a chip competitive to INTC, but they seem to lose money every single year. They can't seem to sell them at a profit. I don't think Osicom has the world-class manufacturing facilities of an Intel or a Lucent. I think a huge company like a Lucent can wring out price concessions from suppliers because of it's size and volume commitments. A company like Osicom can't. That puts them at a disadvantage.

That's one reason why I think Osicom will fail. Perhaps they can build a few Gigamux units that are acceptable to customers like Media One, but can they do it on a large scale? At a profit?

Doubtful...
