Congress has the legal power to release that material. I explicitly recognized that in what I wrote, and do so here again.

Congress also had the power to conduct the McCarthy hearings. They were also a nadir of unfairness, and hugely prejudicial effects. Thankfully, after enormous damage had been done and long gone on, the American people finally did become disgusted at the unfairness and lack of balance. And it stopped. Finally.

I think the backlash will come a lot quicker this time.

I was not aware of a wholesale release of Grand Jury material in Iran-Contra by Walsh. If he did so, I imagine I would agree it was abusive, depending on details of the circumstances, etc. In any event there was much in Iran-Contra that I disliked. About 1/3 of the way into it, or sooner, I thought it should stop. Because although there was a possibility of some illegality on the President's part, and abuse of office, it seemed to me the charges were largely political, and involved intense policy disagreements. I thought the Constitutional high hurdle of an impeachable offense very unlikely to be met, and accordingly that the great damage of the process should be terminated.

I do try to be fair minded, and even handed.

I'm also an independent, and not a Democrat. Have voted for each side quite often.
