Agreed, The price points aren't there yet and service delivery is very VERY spotty. I recall that when frame relay first became the buzz in the early 90's it was the same way. Critical mass occurred very quickly however.

Like you, many folks want fast access to the net. Furthermore many folks want to deal with one company for telephone, cable (video), and ISP access...that means one bill as well. There are still a number of hurdles to overcome and the RBOC's still need to figure out what service based pricing is. This isn't going to happen overnight, but it will happen in a major way during 99...at least that's my opinion. It should be interesting to watch.

PacBell has ADSL now but the pricing is pretty high and relative to cable service offered by TCI-@Home (1.5mbps) for much less it's ano-brainer. Installation about the same (159 vs 150) but the monthly for 384Kbs is $89 on PacBell and $39.95 for cable at almost 4 times the speed.

TCI is expanding the coverage area in increments. Not all phone numbers can use PacBell's ADSL - depends on the distance from the CO to the CP and the condition of the copper in between. Where I'm moving to in Alameda (about 2 miles or so from Ascend) ADSL will NOT work so evenif the economics and service speeds were similar it wouldn't matter - the aging copper plant and distance makes it a no-no even at the slowest speed offered. FWIW.

With all the volatility of the market the last few weeks, wouldn't you know, that triple witching day would be the calmest day I can remember.

Also amazing how few stocks that I watch went out on a strike price.
