OT to ed and Phil Melemed:

Thanks for your contributions on Ken Starr and the scandal formerly known as Whitewater. I've gotten into a fairly dumb debate in another forum with a sometime contributor here, and it's all quite depressing. The Democrats and the White house are engaged in a smear campaign, while Ken Starr is the impartial and objective protector of "long standing American values". Strange days.

I know we disagree on the, uh, correct interpretation of antitrust law; all I'll say on that matter is that it's legally complicated, and I don't prejudge the outcome. Microsoft has good lawyers, and there are plenty of Chicago School judges out there. I think the Intel style of "leave it to the lawyers" would be more effective, that's all. Bill's perfectly within his rights to defend his company however he sees fit. I think you'd all be better served if the defense team stuck to the "Chicago School" legal defense and downplayed the various PR lines.

Cheers, Dan.
