MRBIGAIR, I went from San Diego to Seattle this summer and I can tell you that NXTL has no service on I5 from Lake Shasta to 60 miles or so inside Oregon. I suppose they will have coverage there some day but for now there are probably more deer and skunks per mile than permanent residents in that mountainous region. In time I suspect that NXTL, or more likely, the partners will add some coverage in part of that I5 stretch. But until LEOS are up and functioning, I don't expect much. Mountains are a problem and, as you know, I80 has more than its share of mountains. As for Tahoe, it's not on I80. Reno, on the other hand, is in a valley and I would expect excellent coverage in that valley.
