The TFS stock price should be draped in black! and we shareholders should be wearing black arm bands.

But this does sound as though TFS is making a good go of their China plant. Note, too, that the quotes in the following article are prominently attributed to Mr. Hren, as they should be. IT would seem this announcement puts an end to the two rumors that floated around the valley here during the past few weeks.

Note too that their announcement now concludes with a strong mention of their new technologies. Good job!

Company Press Release

Three-Five Systems Ships First Volume Product From China Plant

TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 21, 1998--Three-Five Systems, Inc. (NYSE: TFS - news) announced that it has shipped
its first production-volume liquid crystal display modules from the company's new manufacturing facility in Beijing, China.

''As of today we have shipped several thousand units to a customer's manufacturing plant in China,'' said Vincent C. Hren, Three-Five's president and chief executive officer,
''and production volume will continue to ramp up over the next several months.''

Hren noted that the new products, which are cellular telephone graphics displays, began shipping only three months after the company initiated the production of test units in
Beijing.

''We are extremely pleased with our progress, and very proud of our employees in China who have brought the plant on-line in a very short period of time,'' he said.

Three-Five leased the 27,000 square foot plant in February of this year. While setting up and equipping two production lines, the company simultaneously hired and trained
about 150 new employees. Pre-production samples, which underwent life testing and analysis at the company's headquarters in Tempe, Arizona, began rolling off the
assembly lines early in June.

Three-Five announced its decision to establish manufacturing operations in China earlier this year. Reasons for the expansion included business growth expectations and the
need for added manufacturing capacity, beyond what is available at its Manila, Philippines operation. The China operation is currently located in a temporary, leased facility.
The company is planning to move to a newly-built, permanent facility in 1999.

Three-Five Systems, Inc. is a recognized leader in the design and manufacture of liquid crystal display (LCD) modules for OEM customers in the communications, medical
electronics, industrial process control, wireless data collection and office automation marketplaces. At its Tempe, Arizona headquarters, Three-Five operates the highest
volume LCD manufacturing line in North America and a research and development laboratory dedicated to advanced display technologies. The company has developed three
proprietary display technologies: LCiD(TM) (Liquid Crystal intense Display), LCaD(TM) (Liquid Crystal active Drive), and LCoS(TM) (Liquid Crystal on Silicon)
microdisplays. The company's website is located at www.threefive.com.
