Platinum says no reason for stock drop

Monday September 21, 12:30 pm Eastern Time

IRVINE, Calif., Sept 21 (Reuters) - Financial management software maker Platinum Software Corp. said on Monday that it was unable to explain the approximate 37 percent decline in its stock price on Friday.

It also said rumors about its chief executive, George Klaus, leaving the company were unfounded.

''While it is company policy not to comment on market rumors, we do not understand the recent trading in our stock,'' said Klaus, chairman, president and chief executive.

''We remain confident about our product offerings and the markets we serve and have no material, negative developments to announce,'' Klaus added.

Klaus said he was committed to the company and rejected any rumors about his departure as baseless.
