You are certainly lucky to be rated as high as you are. I am merely a dolt.

This Clinton thing is wonderful for people across the spectrum, mainly males. Those who never have got anywhere with women in their lives can rejoice in the public humiliation of a successful womanizer, whereas those who have succeeded can reflect smugly that they got away with a lot more than Clinton. So everyone comes out feeling superior to the President of the United States.

The spectacle of Monica provides similar reassurance for women. She's a very pretty young woman who fell in love with the President of the United States. Women who for whatever reason were never courted by a man with overwhelming sex appeal can see her as a prostitute, and women more glamorous and more promiscuous than she can keep quiet and let her take the heat for the whole group.

Linda Tripp and Kenneth Starr may end up doing time in minimum-security prisons. She broke the law that's promulgated in the front of every telephone directory, and he leaked, or permitted to be leaked, grand jury testimony.

The best comments so far? Those of Oprah and of Willian Buckley. They both converge on, "This is a lamentable situation."
