Sir, in my earlier post I cited a post in which an investor on the Buffetology thread led off with
Box makers = car companies...
What are your thoughts on that comparison. I understand and appreciate your view that a computer is vastly more complex than the TV commodity.
My view is that the poster is onto something if your regard Dell's build to order just in time operation as an achievement equal to Henry Ford's invention of the assembly line. Dell has come up with the optimal way to mass produce and distribute computers.
I imagine if you bought stock in Ford in the first ten years after its founding, you would have seen growth in the stock comparable to Dell computer today.
THe arguement that Box makers = car companies...
does not apply too well for Compaq unless you regard it as an car company with an inefficent assembly line.
Or are we comparing apples and oranges?
Again my apologies for using your words without attribution. I am ashamed of myself. There is something about the Internet which makes cut and paste moves too easy.
