Your inventory reduction comment is accurate, except that most commonly companies usually are slow to react to decreasing sales thus react to lowering inventories much too late in the cycle.

Bringing inventories in line is painful to the bottom line and also takes longer than companies anticipate because sales do not ramp up that quickly, and very often when demand improves the product has to be updated. There is normally a shakeout of the weak companies.

The DD makers are working through this process. The stockholder that can decipher when and who the survivors will be will gain big from all of this.
