Clarence,

I think that if you're willing to shell out the $ for good RAM, that you'll do great with the Viking. I'm sure the reason he'll warranty this combo is that he's exentively tested and sold dozens and dozens of them without problems. FWIW, I'm having 0 problems with premium PC 66 ram on my OC'd celeron (now that the bad ram chip is out.) I understand the BX chipset to be pretty forgiving on this too, esp. if you don't take the bus speed above 100. I have not seen viking PC 100 RAM references, but would be extremely surprised if it didn't work great. Heck, had I to do it over again, I'd probably have gone with one of his tested combos to save the grief of getting the bad chip the first time.

Glad you've found H. Chen such a pleasure to deal with. Isn't he a genuinely nice guy?

Good luck,

Dave

I'm kinda parcel to Mushkin PC 100 sdram though because of the quality of the Lite-On PCB (according to Anand).

Dave, I am also an Anand devotee, but I want to mention something that has been bothering me of late. I have begun to rely heavily on his recommendations, and actually got burned real bad on one mobo that I got, based on his recommendation. Then, I started to think more about it, and have a few ideas I'd like to open up for discussion, if anyone's interested.

I read an article once that said this (at the time) 15 year old guy made $30K his first year in operation, all from advertisers. While I certainly wouldn't accuse him of favoring his advertisers, I have never seen him give a truly negative review. I wonder why that is. For instance, all his motherboards and RAM seem to come to him free, or perhaps for the cost of a link to the vendor's site. If he was paying for these things, why would he thank each individual vendor by way of links at the end of each review? I can't help but think he's using some kind of trade-out on the things he reviews.

Having said that, it doesn't automatically mean that there is some kind of quid pro quo going on, but it makes me suspect. And the fact that you never see him (at least I haven't seen any) give any truly negative reviews makes me wonder further.

I'm open to other opinions. Anyone?

Len
