Dorine,

Windows is a client OS and NT is a Server/Workstation OS which can also be used as a client. NT is a more powerful multitasking operating system and many folks including those at Microsoft believe that NT will be the OS of the future ... in essence supplanting Win.

Anyone care to add more?

To put it simple terms WIN 98 and all windows before are graphical interface for DOS, while NT is not. NT is much more robust and used mostly on the corp. desk top. Go to MSFTs web site to learn more.

Dorine,

In regard to performance with "fun" programs (games, sounds, etc) Windows 98 is superior to Windows NT. So if you are contemplating using it for personal use you may want to take that into consideration as well.
