<off topic> Re Proposition 13 Well stated, Mr. K! California real estate values had gone out of sight long before Proposition 13 was voted in overwhelmingly in 1978. Prior to the passage of Proposition 13, people were literally being taxed out of their homes. California real estate values have continued to rise disproportionately for a number of reasons. Eliminating Proposition 13 will not change the fact that too many people have decided that California is a highly desirable place to live and work. This perceived reality affects housing supply and demand far more than the fallout from Proposition 13. I invite you to go to my profile page and click on the Contra Costa Times and San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle links. Go to the Real Estate sections, and you will find that there is still much pleasant and relatively affordable housing in the seven counties which comprise the SF Bay Area. The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) and ferry boats are far preferable to commuting via private auto over the freeways and bridges and most surface streets. What many companies located Silicon Valley are doing is importing completed work from countries such as India, Jamaica, etc., at wages prevalent in those countries. This is made possible by the Internet, and Wall Street absolutely loves it. But that's a subject for perhaps another post, another thread. I agree with statements made by various posters to this thread that overturning proposition 13 because some think it unfair is just plain wrongheaded and shortsighted. Additionally, there are many hidden taxes and district assessments that are spread across the board, to some degree negating the intent of Proposition 13. If someone wants to rally Sacramento to adopt fiscal conservation and belt-tightening, that's something I could really get behind. I cannot in all good conscience work for the repeal of Proposition 13. FWIW, I did not vote for Proposition 13 because I thought the politicians would use it to punish us. They have done and continue to do just that. Holly
