BMFM: Would be a nice holiday gift, but not likely to be another beanie baby. Somewhat expensive for the average computer user and you need a CD-RW drive.

On the software theme, I see that Yamaha today announced a 4xCD-RW drive (the first one--shipping in October) and is bundling Adaptec software with it. The link is:

prnewswire.com

but the article is fairly far down the list on the page (about 8:15am).

Some highlights:

"Yamaha will bundle the latest version of Adaptec(R) DirectCD in the new CD-RW drives. With the software, Yamaha's CRW4416 drives are the only drives on the market to format a CD-RW disc in just 2.5 minutes, a fraction of the time required be earlier CD-RW drives. . . . Other bundled software includes: Adaptec EasyCD Creator for creating data and audio CDs; DirectCD, which allows you to backup entire directories in seconds using drag-and-drop transfer of files, including internet downloads; . . . External drives will also include: Adaptec's Toast(TM) (Macintosh), for creating cross-platform CDs. . . ."

Not a lot of competition for Adaptec in this market.

And in the for-what-it's-worth department, Adaptec's satellite networks spinoff--BraodLogic--now has a website, but it only contains the spinoff announcement by Adaptec.
