***OFF TOPIC*** I know these comments will not be popular here, as investors in general tend toward the conservative, and in particular, many of the inhabitants of this thread have made their disapproval of Clinton very clear. But I am going to say them anyway and take my lumps, because I think the subject is important. I watched portions of the President's grand jury testimony in hopes of understanding what grounds Ken Starr had for claiming perjury in that testimony. (I had been expecting a perjury charge based on the Paula Jones deposition, not the grand jury testimony.) What I saw instead was a man who was, finally, telling the truth to the best of his ability, both as to his actions, and his motivations for those actions. Clinton did not know that the tape would be released, let alone televised, and I saw a candor that we have seldom seen in his public statements on this subject. I am hard pressed to understand how Starr could see and hear testimony like that and not know that he was hearing the truth. It's almost as if he was watching a different event from the one I was seeing. I can only conclude that he has been so blinded by his hatred of Clinton that he has lost all objectivity. Before watching it, while I thought Clinton was getting a raw deal, I also thought he was somewhat of a weasel. Now that I have seen for myself how he conducted himself, without its being filtered through the eyes of Ken Starr or the politicians, I no longer think he is a weasel, but is actually a relatively good man who was put in an impossible position. Considering how much has been made of Clinton's credibility, or lack thereof, I think this is important, and considering the poll results since the broadcasts, I think I am not the only one to react this way. OK, gentlemen, take your shots. <G>
