Darleen: He appears to be limiting his vision to just the USA. As you know well, real estate prices and wages in many countries have collapsed causing a negative "wealth effect." Such events have lagged effects on consumer spending. We are now seeing those effects in sharp retrenchment in consumer spending that reaches out to other countries. Example, exports of timber and seafood from Canada to Asia are down sharply, as seen in 20%-plus reduction in ship loadings in Vancouver.

I'm sure restaurant attendance in Russia is telling you a different story.

When I worked in Wall Street I referred to "window provincialism." A "provincial" is someone who can't see beyond his/her own narrow horizons. If analysts couldn't see something outside their own window, i.e. New York City, then it did not exist.
