Jon, re:"explain why"

This is an easy one - He doesn't!

Intel has taken the initiative to modernize the PC platform by "inventing" such new I/O means as USB to replace obsolete serial and parallel ports. However Intel is a component maker. To date Intel has not convinced its customers to take the leap.

Well - Apple took the leap.

The iMAC is configured in line with the Intel initiatives. Andy merely acknowledged this. The rest was pure spin by idiot press. Andy did not say he "loved his iMac". Indeed he did not even say that he owed an iMac!

Dear Johnathan: If you see the poll that accompanies the article you will see why. Andy is not alone the tally after 6200 votes cast is 95% in favor of the Mac. Now if Jobs had only been smart enough to do what Billy G did it would make sense as an investment as well as the world would have been Mac centric rather than PC centric. Beta was better than VHS but no one sold beta media. Same story here. I own a MAc and it has served me well for 20 years (upgrading throughout) but I still envy the software available to PC folks especially in the financial area.

Jonathan - Re: "Can you explain why Intel's commander and chief "Loves his iMac"

Here's why - it was printed right in the article.

Do you only read headlines?

Paul

{=============================}

"The iMac embodies a lot of the things I'm talking
about," says Grove. "Sometimes what Apple is
doing may have an electrifying effect on the rest of us. It's nothing we couldn't have done, but Apple went ahead and did it."
