CIEN at 1 billion + is still too big. Cisco has been acquiring small, privately held companies. Can you imagine the hit Cisco, Lucent or Ascend stock would take if they were to make a bid for CIEN? CIEN is damaged goods, and perceived to have brought Tellabs down along with it. Why takeover CIEN when you can partner with them and get the same benefits? No one will touch CIEN in this volatile market because it'll halve their stock price in a New York minute. Even if anyone is interested, they'd wait until the dust settles, and people say, CIEN who? or "Isn't it spelled with a 'V'?" The memory of the TLAB-CIEN bustup is too fresh on investors' minds.
